"Dignity is wrapped in your DNA and carries your influence and greatness. Have the will to Unleash it"

Khalil Sikander
Khalil Sikander is native of Brooklyn, New York who now resides in Utah. He is an Afghani American who was raised in a difficult environment inside and outside the home. Khalil knows what it means to be resilient and persevere while being raised in a home filled with domestic abuse and alcoholism. He chased his dream of playing college basketball through hard work and sacrifice that gave him the privilege to play at the Division 1 level. His love of the game of basketball provided a path to escape the grips of poverty, a life of drugs and avoid violence that surrounded him daily. He attributes his success to many great mentors and teachers that taught him the importance of education, leading him to become a high school educator and basketball coach. Khalil was the first in his family to graduate high school, college, earn his master’s degree in education that took him on a path to earning SHAPE High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2016, along multiple Coach of the Year awards in the state of Utah in his almost 2 decade tenure. He has turned his life journey and experiences towards being a speaker so he can influence more youth and educators. Khalil leans on his experiences to show his expertise of dignity through what he calls SCHAPE. He teaches, motivates and inspires all to find their dignity and help others find theirs through the 6 core qualities of SCHAPE (spirit, communication, hustle, attitude, passion, effort). His lessons as a youth of overcoming home trouble and drugs habits to enduring racism, harassment, bullying, nepotism and lack of mental health support for others as an educator has shown we have lost focus on our Dignity. Khalil understands what it means to be the underdog and uses his never give up attitude and moral compass of dignity to help others. He has learned that treating others with dignity transforms us into people who can do the unthinkable and unimaginable.
